chocolate apricot torte

filling:
12 oz. dried apricots diced finely
1 1/2 c sugar
3/4 c water
3 T flour
juice of 1/2 lemon

crust
3 oz.unsweetened chocolate
2 c whole walnuts
1 1/2 flour
3/4 c firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2t salt
1/2 c butter cut into pieces
2T cold water
2t vanilla

for filling:
combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan and bring to a slow boil. reduce heat and simmer stirring frequently and mashing any large pieces until mixture resembles thick jam. about 25 minutes. remove from heat.

crust: place chocolate in the bowl of a food processor and chop roughly. add nuts and chop coarsely.   add flour, sugar salt and blend (bits of chocolate and nuts should be visible). add butter and process to blend.   add water and vanilla and mix using on/off switch until crumbly. preheat oven to 350 degrees. pat 2/3 of the dough into bottom and up 1 inch up sides of a 9" spring form pan. add filling. crumble additional topping over top to cover,   bake 40 minutes   let cool.
